Medallion Hardwood Flooring

Medallion hardwood flooring used to be a privilege of few people, owing to its high cost. Medallion work, the decorative panels, require highly skilled craftsman and even few years ago, such high precision decorative work was used to be performed on site, making them a costly affair. But, with technological advancement and increasing accessibility to the medallions, medallion hardwood flooring has become quite common and is in high demand.

Handcrafted medallions have become a thing of the past; these are now being produced mechanically in a fast and cost effective manner. With some medallion work at the center, ambience of the room becomes highly graced and celestial. With the introduction of power tools, creating medallion hardwood flooring has become easy and straightforward. By using such decorative work, your house becomes an ideal place to live; it also helps increasing re-sale value for your home. You can customize the existing medallion work to suite your personality, ambience and preference.

Designing of medallion hardwood flooring requires creativity, consistent effort and skill. Without the combination of all three, no medallion can be produced. As far as readymade pre-finished medallion hardwood flooring boards and planks are concerned, they are created much the same way as the engineered hardwoods are generated. In most of the cases, these floor woods are available in 3/4" thickness, where 5/16" thickness is given for the top layer or veneer that defines the quality of medallion hardwood flooring. High-grade Baltic birch plywood constitutes the layers below.

Mechanical medallion designs are generated out of assembling hundreds of individual pieces. The process is technically known as mosaic, creating a final body shape by joining the smaller body parts. If mosaic designs cannot satisfy you, you can go for costly custom designs.

Medallion designs and borders can be placed virtually anywhere above the medallion hardwood flooring; but in general, borders have restricted usage only to define areas of the floor along the perimeters. If you want to have only a single design, then it is better to have it at the center of the room, else you may place four other designs at the four corners of the room. Where, how many, and what types of medallion designs you should have is entirely your personal choice. You may have them as you like within the limitations of the medallion hardwood flooring.

Installing medallions is complex and tricky. It requires patience. You typically get templates or guides from the manufacturers to design and install a medallion pattern over the medallion hardwood flooring. You can use a swing arm method to install your custom made medallions. Creation of borders, however, does not require any set template; install it as per your convenience.
